Video games are but one of my passions. Over the past year and a half, I’ve been slowly getting back into professional sports, a world I had abandoned around the 2004 NHL lockout. To put it plainly, I’ve been dying to write about hockey for the past few months, but the 2012 lockout sort of preempted anything solid. With the recent CBA negotiations finally coming to a close and hockey starting up again next week, I felt the time is right to finally shove my new sports blog out the door.
Say hello to Fake Dead Girlfriend.
This is a joint venture with a good friend of mine who’s also been itching to talk sports. I’ll mostly be talking about hockey, but I’ll throw in a bunch of articles every so often about sports that I don’t know shit about, like basketball and football. It’ll be funny! You can laugh at my cluelessness. And for the serious football, baseball, and basketball commentary, my partner will have things covered. Anyway, just because I’ve started up Fake Dead Girlfriend doesn’t mean I’ll be ignoring Pixel Bubble. It’s just that sometimes I feel like dissecting THQ’s continuing implosion, and sometimes I feel like doing the same thing but for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Anyway, check me out there if you dig sports rants, and if you don’t, stay here for your regularly scheduled video game commentary.
I actually thought this might be the season that got me back into hockey. I watched last year as the Coyotes won their first ever playoff series, and I thought maybe I’d be back on board like I was in the Keith Tkachuk/Jeremy Roenick/Nikolai Khabibulin days.
Then Gary Bettman went and ruined everything.
Anyway, the new blog catches my interest. Good stuff.
If it’s any consolation, this year’s Coyotes are pretty much the same as last year’s Coyotes, except minus their top scorer. But they’re still a defensively sound team with a great coach, and they play in a weak division, so I imagine they’ll probably do well again this season.
Best of luck on the new blog

Thanks dude!
Sometimes I do get annoyed that I have a blog with a somewhat specific topic, and that I will never have the time and patience to run multiple blogs. I’d love to talk about baseball, philosophy, and politics more but alas …
Good luck with your new blog! I know nothing about hockey, so I’ll end with a bad joke: you are just one blog shy of a hat trick now. ;)
Hahaha, I appreciate the effort, thanks. And if you ever do decide to start another blog, know that I’ll read it regardless of what it’s about. Interesting writing is more important than the topic, methinks.
Very true. Passion and talent exist despite the subject in which they are expressed. I just moved to the Chicago area from lower Alabama. Maybe I should try and give hockey its chance anyway?
If you do end up getting into hockey, the Blackhawks are among the NHL’s elite, so they’re always fun to watch. Great offense, great defense, and a horrendous goalie; always makes games exciting.
Oh, and they have a racist Indian mascot! As a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, that’s really important to me. haha
More seriously, I will have to check them out. From when to when does a typical hockey season run?
Hahaha. Please tell me you’re a Redskins fans too.
The NHL regular season is typically 82 games and runs october to april, then playoffs from april to june. It’s hella long, almost unnecessarily so. Now that the lockout’s over, they’re supposedly cramming in 48 games from jan 19 til april, so it’s gonna be a lot of 4-games-a-week nonsense this year.
That actually sounds like a perfect pairing with baseball. I’ll definitely have to give it a shot.
Thanks for the help.
